PILOT CHALLENGES (CONTEXT)
Water shortage is the main factor restricting the development of agriculture in southern Xinjiang. The excessive use of fertilizer has a lot of environmental problems. Scientific use of water and fertilizer in salinized and alkaline land and guarantee of crop yield are problems to be solved.
A variety of sensor data were used to obtain accurate soil quality evaluation information. Based on the existing irrigation system:

To reduce water and fertilizer consumption in the production process
The pilot innovations mainly consist of advanced strategies and technologies for more efficient water and fertilization management, soil quality improvement, and the social-economic analyses and policy recommendations under different scenarios for the new agricultural practices.
